Representatives of Burgas Municipality participated in the fourth partnership meeting for the CLEAR CITIES project – Promoting Policies for the Management of Urban Waste without Carbon Emissions for Sustainable and Safe Cities, financed by the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 Program, which was held in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. The event, which brought together experts and stakeholders from seven European cities, was dedicated to finding solutions for cleaner and more sustainable cities.
The atmosphere was tense, but filled with enthusiasm for future achievements. Representatives from Spain, Italy, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Romania, along with the delegation from Burgas, exchanged ideas and reviewed the best practices for waste management. Innovative solutions and models for achieving sustainable urban development were at the center of the discussions.
The CLEAR-CITIES project aims to improve waste management policies in the participating regions. The goal is to create more effective models that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The main focus of the project is the exchange of knowledge and good practices between Burgas and the other partner cities.
The meeting program included presentations by stakeholders, who presented the challenges faced by their cities, as well as innovative approaches to deal with them. The hosts from Sweden presented numerous examples of effective transportation and removal of household waste. The recycling center "Floating Barge" attracted attention.
On the banks of the Göta Älv River, this center offers residents of Gothenburg the opportunity to dispose of bulky waste without using their cars. This initiative was met with particular interest from foreign guests.

The partners from Gothenburg also presented the companies that service household waste - RENOVA, Sweden. Of them, Envac - a world leader in the automated waste collection industry, recognized as the inventor of the pneumatic waste collection system, deserves attention. These examples of innovation sparked lively discussions about the future of waste management in urban environments.
