A large-scale investment for the modernization of street lighting is being undertaken by the Municipality of Burgas. A total of 2366 highly efficient LED luminaires will replace the old and worn-out street lamps in the "Slaveykov", "Zornitsa", "Lazur" and the central city areas. The replacement is part of the measures to increase energy efficiency and is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Within the project, 65 luminaires with a photovoltaic panel will be installed on pedestrian crossings, and 85 old street poles will be replaced. A large part of the remaining ones will be renovated. The work on the replacement of street lighting and poles is expected to be completed by mid-September.
The Municipality of Burgas has been working hard on the modernization of street lighting for several years. As early as 2022, the lighting on the main boulevards was replaced, and then the gradual installation of new street lighting in the city center and outskirts began. In the neighborhoods and constituent villages, the street lamps have already been replaced, and last year the lighting in the Sea Garden was also replaced.
As a result of this investment, energy performance is expected to improve, with at least a 30% savings in primary energy. At the same time, the level of illumination in the affected areas will be significantly improved.
