Burgas and Gdansk are expanding their partnership, focusing on connectivity and tourism.

Representatives of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the city of Gdansk visited Burgas in June 2023, signing a number of bilateral cooperation agreements. Now a delegation from Burgas will visit Gdansk to mark the opening of the new season of direct flights between the two cities, which will start on June 2, 2025. The development of air connectivity is a key factor in promoting tourism, business, cultural and academic contacts.

After the successful working visit of representatives from the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the city of Gdańsk in Burgas in June 2023, the cooperation between the two regions is entering a new, even more dynamic phase. During the period of June 12-14, 2023, led by the Vice-Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Mr. Leszek Bona, the Polish guests and their Bulgarian hosts signed a number of bilateral agreements covering regional, economic, scientific and tourism cooperation. The Polish delegation also included representatives of universities and several institutions. A joint work plan between Gdańsk and Burgas was signed, as well as an agreement on cooperation between the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the Association of Black Sea Municipalities in Bulgaria. Agreements were also concluded between the National Sports Academy in Sofia and the Academy of Physical Education in Gdańsk, Thracian University and the University of Gdańsk, the University "Assen Zlatarov" and the Medical University in Gdańsk.

A new impetus in bilateral cooperation is given by the visit of a delegation from the city of Burgas to Gdańsk, which begins today. The occasion for this is the ceremony for the opening of the new air link between the two cities. On June 2, Gdańsk Airport will welcome the first direct flight from Burgas for this year, and the event will be marked with a water salute, a ceremonial welcome for the passengers and a special press conference with the participation of the mayors of Burgas and Gdańsk, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Poland - Mrs. Margarita Ganeva, as well as representatives of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

With the launch of regular flights from the beginning of June 2025, new opportunities for more intensive exchange between the regions are created. The development of air connectivity is a key factor in promoting tourism, business, cultural and academic contacts between the partner cities.

The visit of the Burgas delegation to Gdańsk is expected to give a new impetus to the cooperation, with additional initiatives to promote the two regions also discussed.

The partnership between the two cities is an example of a successful model of cross-border cooperation within the European Union. With the growing interest in the Black Sea and Baltic coast regions, Burgas and Gdańsk demonstrate how strategic links between municipalities can generate sustainable growth, more opportunities for citizens and active international visibility.

In the summer season of 2025, Burgas Airport will offer direct flights to 9 destinations in Poland - Warsaw, Gdańsk, Katowice, Krakow, Łódź, Lublin, Poznań, Rzeszów and Wrocław, consolidating its key role in the development of air connectivity between Bulgaria and Poland. There are also 9 airlines operating flights between Burgas and Poland - Ryanair, LOT - Polish Airlines, Buzz, WizzAir, Enter Air, AMC Aviation, Electra Airways, Smartwings and Sky Up. The flight program starts on March 30, when the first regular flight from Krakow, operated by Ryanair, was welcomed. In recent years, Poland has established itself as a leading international market for Burgas Airport, already recording traffic exceeding 2019 levels.
