The Municipality of Burgas and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have agreed to cooperate in developing a concept for creating a leading research center that will serve the higher education institutions in the city. The new campus is expected to start operating in 2027 and offer a modern environment that combines opportunities for education, science, and quality living conditions.
According to the EIB Vice-President Kiriakos Kakouris, creating a high-quality space for learning, work, and living is key to attracting young people to the universities in Burgas. The bank will support the municipality in structuring a viable economic model for the new campus, which will improve the city's position in the field of higher education, promoting innovation and economic growth.
The Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, emphasized that the municipality places a strong emphasis on the development of higher education in the city, as a condition for attracting young people to study, develop, and find their place to live here. Therefore, a modern environment is needed that can seamlessly combine opportunities for education and science with quality living conditions.
The agreement includes the development of a structure and management model for the campus activities, the determination of financing opportunities, and the development of a concept for a data center supporting its digital infrastructure. The model must be comparable to the best practices of similar European innovation and educational campuses.
The EIB's support for this project, as well as for the project to build the Children's Hospital, is in line with the efforts of the Municipality of Burgas to improve the demographic situation in the municipality.
