Burgas is an educational hub with a record number of students

Burgas, September 12 – On the eve of the new 2025/2026 academic year, the seaside city of Burgas is reaffirming its status as an increasingly attractive educational hub. Official data from the Burgas Municipality shows a stable and sustained increase in the number of students, which reflects not only a demographic trend but also the growing prestige of local education. To meet this positive dynamic, the municipality is undertaking large-scale investments in building new and modernizing existing educational infrastructure.

Growth That Speaks for Itself

The numbers are eloquent. Over the past three years, the total number of students in Burgas schools has increased significantly: from 24,540 in 2023, to 24,996 in 2024, to reach an impressive 28,190 in the current year, 2025. This growth is even more impressive among the youngest – first-graders. Their number has grown from 2,037 in 2023 to 2,155 in 2024, and this year they are already 2,750. There are also more children in nurseries and kindergartens – from 7,795 in 2023 to 7,941 in 2025, which is a clear indicator of the long-term settlement of young families in the city.

Studying in Burgas is becoming increasingly prestigious, and the successes and realization of our students are reaching ever-higher levels. To meet this increased interest, we are completing one stage of construction and starting an even larger one in 2026-2027", he stated.

Large-Scale Investment Program in Education

To respond to the growing demand, Burgas Municipality has undertaken an ambitious plan to expand and modernize the educational infrastructure. This year, four new nursery groups have been opened and a total of 43 new classrooms have been built. These new spaces are located in three new buildings: in the Professional High School of Computer Programming and Innovations, in the shared building of the Profiled High School for Romance Languages and the High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, as well as in OU "Hristo Botev" in the "Pobeda" neighborhood.

For students from other settlements who have chosen Burgas for their education, 50 additional places in dormitories have been provided, after 24 new rooms were created. The construction activities continue at full speed. A new school is currently being built in the "Kraymorie" neighborhood (a branch of OU "Al. G. Kodzhakafaliyata"), three new buildings are being added to the schools "Vasil Aprilov", "Lyuben Karavelov", and the Sports School, as well as three new kindergartens. In parallel, work is already underway on the design of four more kindergartens, two gyms, a school swimming pool, and another school.

In addition to new construction, the municipality is also investing in renovating the existing material base. In recent months, sports fields in six schools and the yards of two kindergartens have been renovated. The gym at AEG "Geo Milev" has also been renovated, and a renovation of the gym at OU "Elin Pelin" is upcoming. In addition, the high-tech sector is also a priority, with the continued construction of STEM centers and artificial intelligence laboratories in all Burgas schools.

Most Desired Majors: A Balance Between Academic and Professional Knowledge

The educational profile of Burgas is expanding, with a heightened interest in a wide range of majors for the 2025/2026 academic year. Among the most sought-after are natural sciences, foreign languages, information technologies, and vocational training.

• The most desired profile is "Natural Sciences" with a total of 220 students ranked, distributed across several schools, including PPMAG "Acad. N. Obreshkov".
• In the same high school, the major "Mathematical Profile / Mathematics / Informatics" also stands out, with 104 ranked students and a minimum score of 454.75, which makes it one of the most competitive.
• Language high schools also attract the best students. The profiles with German, English, and Spanish in NEG "Goethe" and GRE "G. S. Rakovski" are among the most desired, with scores over 400 and full admission.
• Vocational education also enjoys high interest. In PGSAAG "Kolyu Ficheto", the major "Construction and Architecture with English Language" leads with 52 ranked students and a score of 389, and "Geodesy" and "Water Construction" are also sought after.
• PGT "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" offers highly qualified personnel to the labor market in fields such as "Catering", "Tourism Organization", and "Production of Bread and Confectionery".

Among the technical majors, "Software and Hardware Sciences", "Vehicle Engineering", and "Aviation Mechanics_q_ also stand out, with over 60 ranked students. This data confirms that students in Burgas seek a balanced development between academic and professional fields.
