An official application has been submitted to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) by the state gas supplier Bulgargaz EAD, with a proposal to approve the price of natural gas for the upcoming month of September. The proposal, which is already publicly available on the regulator"s website, insists on a price of 60.99 leva per megawatt-hour. This value does not include the fees for access, transmission, excise, and VAT, which are separate components of the final bill.

The proposed new price reflects a clear, albeit minimal, downward trend. Compared to the price for the previous month of August, which was approved by the EWRC at 62.09 leva per megawatt-hour, the decrease is by 1.77 percent. This reduction, although small, can provide a breath of fresh air for businesses and end consumers on the eve of the autumn season.

Price Analysis

An analysis of data from recent months shows that the price of the "blue fuel" retains its volatility, but the direction remains predominantly downwards. For comparison:

  • In July, the EWRC had approved a price of 64.55 leva per megawatt-hour.
  • Before that, in June, the price was 64.32 leva per megawatt-hour.
  • In May, it reached 64.40 leva per megawatt-hour.

These consecutive slight drops are closely monitored by all interested parties, as they determine the costs for the main consumers " end suppliers and licensed enterprises in the production and transmission of thermal energy. Any change, no matter how insignificant it may seem, has a cumulative effect on the entire energy market.

The application from Bulgargaz is to be reviewed by the EWRC. The regulator, which is tasked with the responsibility of balancing the interests of the supplier and those of the consumers, will have to make a final decision. Market observers expect the proposed value to be approved, as it is based on market indicators, but the final word rests with the Commission.
