BNB Releases Commemorative Coin in Honor of Krustyo Sarafov: Price, Mintage, and Where to Buy

The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) will release into circulation a copper collector's coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Krastyo Sarafov. This is clear from a statement on the BNB website from March 23, 2026.

The coin is part of the "Bulgarian Artists" series and has a face value of 5 euros. The mintage is 6,000 pieces. The price upon release is 36 euros (70.41 leva).

Coin design:

• Obverse: The BNB emblem with the year "1879", the year of issue "2026" and the face value "5 EURO". The inscription "BULGARIAN NATIONAL BANK" and a laurel wreath.
• Reverse: A portrait of Krastyo Sarafov against the background of a film strip and theatrical masks. The inscription "150 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF KRÅSTYO SARAFOV".
• Art project: Plamen Chernev and Preslav Chernev.

Where to buy the coin:

• At the BNB cash desks: In the central building of the BNB in Sofia, 1 Knyaz Alexander I Square, and in the BNB Cash Center in Sofia, 10 Mihail Tenev Street.
• Purchase conditions: Each customer can purchase only 1 coin. Purchasing on behalf of another person requires a notarized power of attorney. It is not sold to persons under 18 years of age.
• In banks: Investbank AD, First Investment Bank AD, Texim Bank AD, Tokuda Bank AD and Central Cooperative Bank AD, as well as in Mint AD.

The coin is made of copper, fineness 999/1000, weighing 16.4 grams and a diameter of 34.2 mm.

Krastyo Sarafov is a legend of the Bulgarian stage, having recreated over two hundred characters for over 50 years.
