On June 4, 2025, Senior Commissioner Vladimir Marinov, Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (ODMPVR) in Burgas, presented a donation to the two pediatric departments of the University Hospital in Burgas. The donation is part of the charitable initiative "In Memory of Yordan and Atanas", the work of Burgas resident Nikolay Ivanov and employees of ODMPVR - Burgas. The two brave police officers - Atanas Gradev and Yordan Iliev - died in the line of duty three years ago, when they gave their lives to stop a bus with illegal refugees crossing through Bulgaria.
The donation includes a 6-channel ECG device, a patient monitor, and two single-channel infusion pumps. It was presented to the heads of the two pediatric departments at the University Hospital in Burgas - Dr. Hripsime Kasparian and Dr. Boris Angelov, in the presence of the deputy director of the hospital, Dr. Svetoslav Todorov, Radostin Iliev - the father of the late Yordan Iliev, Commissioner Marin Dimitrov - head of the "Security Police and Traffic Police" department, and the donors Nikolay Ivanov and Atanas Hristov.
The equipment will be used for the diagnosis and intensive treatment of children admitted to the two pediatric departments, where the most severe cases from the entire Burgas region are treated. Over 4,000 young patients pass through these departments annually.
This charitable initiative is a continuation of the Easter edition of "In Memory of Yordan and Atanas", part of the long-standing "We Thank Burgas" campaign. On the eve of Easter 2025, food packages were donated to users of daily centers for minors and adults with intellectual difficulties and disabilities, the Community Support Center (CSC) of the Municipality of Burgas, and other people in disadvantaged situations.
On the occasion of June 1st, the First Pediatric Department also received a donation from the Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP) of the Association of Medical Students in Bulgaria - Burgas (ASMB - Burgas). The students donated bedding for children's cribs and thermometers, which need frequent replacement due to washing at high temperatures with special disinfectants. The funds for this donation were collected from the March charity fair organized by the committee.
