As part of the preparations for the active summer tourist season, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) has launched a large-scale campaign to clean the tunnels on the three main highways in the country - "Hemus", "Trakia" and "Struma". The activities are focused on washing the walls, cleaning the roadway and renewing the markings, with the work being carried out mainly at night when traffic is lighter.
On the "Trakia" highway, the activities in the "Trayan's Gate" tunnel have already been completed - the walls have been painted and the roadway has been cleaned, with the tube in the direction of Burgas being renewed first, and then the one for Sofia. On the "Hemus" highway, both tubes of the "Echemiška" tunnel and the tube for Varna of the "Praveshki Hanove" tunnel have been cleaned, while the repair of the tube for Sofia of the latter is still ongoing.
On the "Struma" highway, the two tubes of the "Malo Buchino" tunnel have been renewed so far, and by the end of May the "Lyulin" and "Golqmo Buchino" tunnels will also be cleaned. The cleaning of the "Železnica" tunnel has also begun, with the work in the tube in the direction of Kulata completed, and the work in the tube for Sofia will be completed tonight.
