The Deputy Chairman of the BCCI, Dr. Vasil Todorov, welcomed the Belgian companies at the opening of the forum, organized jointly with the Association of Meat Processors in Bulgaria and the Belgian Meat Office. Todorov emphasized that the inclusion of topics such as technology transfer and innovation within the framework of the bilateral meetings is a good practice that can upgrade the existing trade relations. In the context of Bulgaria's expected integration into the Eurozone, such contacts can contribute to the development of this and other economic sectors.
The Chairman of the Association of Meat Processors in Bulgaria, Atanas Urdjanov, thanked the participants for their interest in the event. He pointed out that the domestic meat processing sector has a large capacity, but local producers do not generate enough raw material, which is why the industry has to import meat.
Joris Coenen, manager of the Belgian Meat Office, pointed out that in 2024 Belgium produced around 1,000,000 tons of pork, and the country is one of the leading exporters in the EU. Coenen assured that Bulgarian processors who choose to work with Belgian companies will receive high-quality raw materials that meet all European standards.
The forum was attended by six Belgian companies - Danis Pork Masters NV, Debra Group NV, Delavi NV, Noordvlees NV, Vleesbedrijf P. Wils, Vleeshandel De Waele NV, represented by Agrofood BV, as well as 12 Bulgarian meat processors - Vaklinov, T-Market, Boni Holding, Magre frozen foods, Sofmil 66, Meat Exchange, V Stock 2021, KFM, Ravan 2001, ELKO MES, Holiday Meat EOOD and Alfa Farm.
The event is part of the efforts to deepen the economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Belgium, especially in the context of the upcoming adoption of the euro in Bulgaria. The meetings provided an opportunity to establish new business contacts and discuss potential joint projects in the meat processing sector.
