Rapid response of environmental protection teams in case of oil spill in Burgas

Immediate reaction of specialized teams followed a signal for an oil spill in the area of the Rosenets oil depot, Burgas municipality. A team from the Regional Laboratory - Burgas to the Executive Environment Agency was mobilized, which together with experts from the Black Sea Basin Directorate in Burgas and the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Burgas, carried out an inspection in the Black Sea waters with a motor boat.

In the surveyed area, from pier 31 of "Chengene Skele" to the end of the bay, the presence of a visible film and opalescence of oil products on the surface of the sea water was established. Separate spots of different sizes were observed, occupying an area of about 60 m2. During the inspection, a slight odor of oil products was felt.

The inspection found that the owner of the motor yacht had notified the local municipal administration of a technical problem with the vessel, as a result of which diesel fuel had leaked into the "Chengene Skele" bay. In order to monitor the condition of the waters, five samples were taken in the bay, which were analyzed for the content of oil products. The test results were sent to the Black Sea Basin Directorate for further action.
