In an atmosphere of emphasized friendship and mutual respect, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov held an important meeting in New York with representatives of leading Jewish organizations.
The talks, held against the backdrop of the vibrant city life, highlighted the strong and growing strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Israel.
The Prime Minister categorically stated that "Bulgaria considers the State of Israel a key strategic partner, and our excellent relations could give a strong impetus in the sectors of trade, innovation, education, agriculture and tourism".
This is a statement that signals ambitious plans for future cooperation in key areas of the economic and social development of the two countries.
The Council of Ministers noted the deep historical connection between Bulgaria and the Jewish people, emphasizing the 82nd anniversary of the salvation of Bulgarian Jews.
This event, marked by unity among Bulgarians from all walks of life, remains a lasting symbol of humanity and solidarity, an inseparable part of the national memory, annually honored by the Bulgarian people.
It is considered that this shared experience is an extremely important basis for present and future cooperation.
The meeting did not bypass the current international situation, marked by the severe humanitarian crisis in the region.
Prime Minister Zhelyazkov categorically pointed out that "Bulgaria consistently calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. The hostage crisis directly affects our country. Among the persons who are still detained by "Hamas", is one Bulgarian citizen".
He emphasized the need for the unconditional protection of all civilians, including humanitarian workers, as well as civilian infrastructure, citing medical facilities, schools and UN premises as examples of critical importance.
The Prime Minister"s statement shows serious concern for the well-being of Bulgarian citizens and signifies Bulgaria"s categorical position on the issue of humanitarian rights in the region.
The fight against anti-Semitism was highlighted as a key priority in Bulgaria"s foreign policy, linked to human rights.
Emphasis was placed on the successful implementation of the first National Action Plan to Combat Anti-Semitism, adopted by the Council of Ministers, demonstrating Bulgaria"s active efforts to create a tolerant and inclusive society.
Mark Levin, Executive Vice President and CEO of the National Coalition Supporting Eurasian Jewry – NCSEJ, expressed gratitude for "the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between Bulgaria and the Jewish community", emphasizing "dialogue, memory and cooperation as the basis of our strong ties and our efforts for a better and fairer future for all".
Mr. Levin highly appreciated Bulgaria"s consistent position in the fight against anti-Semitism and support for intercultural understanding, expressing hope for continued joint work in education, preservation of historical memory and the promotion of tolerance.
Mr. Gideon Taylor, Chairman of the World Jewish Restitution Organization, added that "only through cooperation can we guarantee that the past will not be forgotten, and the lessons from it – neglected_q_.
