The bilateral trade relations between Bulgaria and China are entering a new stage of dynamic development, with trade turnover between the countries reaching an impressive 4 billion US dollars in 2024. This significant economic result was presented during a large-scale international conference dedicated to investment and trade cooperation.
During the forum, jointly organized with the leadership of Sichuan Province, Deputy Minister of Economy Doncho Barbalov outlined the strategic priorities of Bulgaria in economic relations with the Asian country. Among the key participants were Vice Governor Dun Weimin and representatives of leading Chinese institutions responsible for foreign economic relations.
Barbalov emphasized that Bulgaria views cooperation with China in the context of its full membership in the European Union and the Schengen Area. He highlighted opportunities for expanding export potential in strategic sectors such as agriculture, food industry, energy, and tourism.
A key focus of the diplomatic meeting was attracting Chinese investments in areas that provide high added value and innovative solutions. The Bulgarian side demonstrated clear interest in deepening economic ties, seeking mutually beneficial partnerships.
Representatives of state institutions and business circles from both sides discussed specific mechanisms for expanding trade exchange. The forum became a platform for direct dialogue and outlining the prospects for future cooperation between Bulgaria and the Chinese province of Sichuan.
The Deputy Minister's concluding messages were extremely optimistic – Bulgaria sees China not just as a trading partner, but as a strategic ally with potential for long-term economic development.
