Apple Vision Pro Introduces Enhanced Accessibility for the Visually Impaired

Apple has announced significant accessibility improvements for users with vision impairments through visionOS on the Apple Vision Pro. Using the device’s main camera, powerful updates to the Zoom feature now allow users to magnify everything in their field of view — including their physical surroundings. VoiceOver users benefit from Live Recognition, which uses on-device machine learning to describe the environment, detect objects, and read documents aloud. These features enable hands-free navigation and better interaction with the physical world. Additionally, a new API will allow approved accessibility apps — such as Be My Eyes — to access the main camera for live, person-to-person visual support, offering real-time guidance in everyday situations. With Apple Vision Pro, a user in the kitchen can zoom in on a recipe in a book while checking off ingredients in the Notes app, showcasing how the technology enhances daily independence and efficiency.
