US President Donald Trump announced in an interview published on YouTube that within the next two weeks it will become clear whether Russian leader Vladimir Putin has a genuine desire to achieve peace in Ukraine or is just simulating the negotiation process. According to Trump, the lead negotiator at the moment is Whitcomb, who "is acting very strongly" and is provoking a reaction from Russia. Trump expressed serious disappointment with the violence that occurred "a few nights ago", when "people were killed during the negotiations", emphasizing that he does not tolerate strikes on cities with missiles. Asked whether he would participate in a possible trilateral meeting with Zelensky and Putin in Geneva, Trump answered affirmatively, if necessary, adding that General Kellogg is already working on the preparations. The former president stated that if he were in power, there would be no war, inflation or other problems, but refrained from imposing sanctions in order not to compromise a potential peace deal. Meanwhile, according to Russian sources, a second round of negotiations has been scheduled in Istanbul, which will likely be used by Moscow as a signal of readiness for dialogue.
