Alexandra Lukoyanova has moved into first place overall in the EuroILCA European Sailing Cup in the Olympic ILCA 6 class. Yacht Club "Chernomorets Burgas", which the Bulgarian sailor represents, announced the news.

She posted the strong result at the regatta in Bodrum, Turkey, one of the last stops on the European circuit, racing against some of the best sailors in Europe.

A week earlier, Lukoyanova won the title at Bulgaria's national championship in ILCA 6.

The Burgas club had two sailors in Bodrum. The other was Simeon Emilyanov, who raced more experienced rivals in shifting winds and picked up valuable international experience.

The club says the success comes from hard work, professional training and Lukoyanova's drive to be among the best in the world.

Before the season ends, Lukoyanova will race at the World Cup in Spain. Early next year she heads to Brazil for the first Olympic qualifier, where the race for a spot at the Los Angeles Olympics begins.
