Willy Russell's British comedy "Shirley Valentine" opens in Burgas on October 27 at 7:30pm at the State Puppet Theatre, the Youth Theatre School in Burgas says. The school staged the production, directed by Rumen Velev.

Actress Vladislava Yoncheva plays Shirley. Burgas audiences know her from the comedy "Same Time, Next Year".

A second show follows on November 17, 2026, also at 7:30pm at the same venue.

Russell's play won the Laurence Olivier Award for best new comedy and was nominated for a Tony Award for best play, among other international honours.

The story follows a woman stuck in the sameness of her daily routine, and the moment she finds the strength to listen to her own wants. The show mixes humour, self-deprecation and sadness, built around breaking free from the daily grind that shows no mercy to people without dreams.

Beneath her ordinary life, the woman Yoncheva plays still holds onto the ability to dream and the will to change course.
