A contemporary reading of a classic
The theatrical adaptation of one of the most significant works in Bulgarian literature is the work of Emil Bonev, who managed to translate the poetic power of Vazov into a contemporary theatrical language. Under the masterful direction of Bogdan Petkanin, the play aims to revive the images of the heroes whose sacrifices and ideals laid the foundations of our freedom. The legendary figures of Benkovski, Kocho, the Zhekovi Brothers, Kableshkov, Paisiy, the Miladinovi Brothers, Hadzhi Dimitar, Volov, Karadzhata, as well as the Shipka Volunteers, will come to life on stage. Their destinies and ideals will be presented in a way that emphasizes their eternal significance for national memory.
An emotional journey into history
The production is conceived as a captivating emotional journey that combines dramaturgy, visual elements, and acting skills to make history not just a subject of remembrance, but alive and accessible to the contemporary audience. The set design by Milen Borichev and the costumes by Zhaneta Ivanova contribute to creating an authentic and impactful atmosphere. The music, composed by Georgi Garchov, further enhances the emotional charge of the scenes, intertwining the past with the present. The play is not just a performance, but a cathartic experience that reminds us of the roots of our freedom. Every scene is carefully constructed to transport the viewer through the most dramatic moments of the Bulgarian Revival.
