The traditional "Sorrows Holidays" are returning to the Bulgarian cultural space with a large-scale initiative planned for July 29, 2025. Ethnographic experts are restoring forgotten rituals that have deep roots in folk mythology and connect communities with natural cycles.
The event spans three consecutive days – from July 28 to 30, with a focus on regions in Southern Bulgaria, especially the Rhodope Mountains. Organizers from local cultural institutions are preparing a comprehensive program, including educational workshops and presentation concerts.
The main goal of the initiative is to preserve authentic intangible cultural heritage. Specialists will present traditional practices such as gathering medicinal herbs, performing symbolic dances, and conducting fire rituals that are part of ancient health and agricultural customs.
