Andrey Yanev's "Guest" Exhibition in Burgas on Hospitality

The theme of hospitality – simultaneously an expression of religious piety and a philosophical aporia, formulated by Jacques Derrida – occupies a central place in the upcoming exhibition by Andrey Yanev. The opening of the exhibition, titled "Guest", is scheduled for November 7th at 6:00 PM in the Burgas Art Gallery "Petko Zagorski".

This exhibition is the third in a series with which the artist celebrates his 60th birthday. Before "Guest" were presented "The Council", shown in June in Sofia, at the National Archaeological Institute with a museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and "Archangelic Forgiveness", which welcomed its first visitors on August 6th in the Bachkovo Monastery, with the blessing and support of His Eminence Bishop Sioniy of Velichko, Abbot of the Bachkovo Holy Monastery.

The upcoming exhibition introduces us to the eponymous work of Andrey Yanev. Created more than 22 years ago for a joint exhibition with the artist Georgi Dinev, it will be presented in Burgas. Yanev himself shares, "this image appeared to me even before I set foot on Athos for the first time", and it is this image that will greet the guests of the exhibition. An event that Georgi Baev defines as "hope in despair". Today, this painting, representing an incorporeal force – is it an angel or a human, it doesn't matter – returns after a long journey to the hometown of Andrey Yanev.

"Guest" is not just an exhibition, but a personal apocalypse of the author. Visitors will have the opportunity not only to encounter the exquisite, but also to enter a territory of reflection, focused on the theme of our own fears of rejection. The exhibition opens by the sea, which, as the poet notes, we still overturn "with fingers, bruised with sadness". In search of meaning, of ourselves, of a hospitable home.
