"Artist and Letter": Cyrillic as Art in Burgas

The Cyrillic alphabet goes beyond the frame of text

On May 20 at 6:30 PM, the Petko Zadgorski Art Gallery in Burgas opens its doors for a non-traditional exhibition – "Artist and Letter". The exhibition is the work of lecturers from the Department of Book, Illustration, and Print Graphics at the National Academy of Art.

The exhibition explores the Cyrillic alphabet not just as a means of reading, but as an independent artistic image.

What to expect from the exhibition?

The project features prominent artists such as Iliya Gruev, Regina Dalkalacheva, Krasimir Andreev, Kapka Kaneva, Boyana Pavlova, Emil Markov, and Dora P. Ivanova. Visitors will be able to see:

• Experimental art books;
• Light installations, including the "Forest" project by Kapka Kaneva;
• Calligraphy and complex typographic interpretations;
• Interesting authorial interpretations of the Cyrillic letter "Er Golyam" (Hard Sign).

About the project

"Artist and Letter" is part of a long-term research and creative project that has already visited Bratislava and Sofia. In Burgas, the exhibition offers an upgraded selection that transforms letters into a cultural symbol and a field for artistic innovation.
