Burgas will hold two days of green events on 2 and 4 October, called the "Regional Forum for Climate Innovation – Burgas 2026", Burgas council says. The events cover climate, the urban environment, active living and public involvement.

Burgas council's local unit for sustainability and climate adaptation meets on 2 October in the conference hall of the College of Tourism in Lake Park. The meeting, called "Start Green. Climate Innovation for a Sustainable Burgas", will look at what the project has done so far and its results.

Participants will discuss climate innovation, options for local development, and ways to cut emissions and cope better with a changing climate. Members of the unit will present project ideas and proposals that could shape future decisions and projects for the city.

On 4 October the focus moves outdoors for the "Start Green" initiative, in the newly built green corridor in the Zornitsa district, near the small car park by St. Anastasia Children's Hospital. The programme starts at 2pm with a performance by the Zvezditsa-Zornitsa kindergarten and the "Children Adopt Trees" initiative. Children can take part in a graffiti workshop, a drawing contest and other activities.

Also taking part are Esteo Esteroni, the Goethe German Language School, the Lyuben Groys Theatre College, the Zvezditsa-Zornitsa kindergarten, Zumba with Ili, and the Burgas branch of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

Sign-up for the family run "Outrun Yourself" starts at 2:30pm, with the 5km race starting at 3:30pm. The run is organised together with Burgas Run, 5km Run and Papa Beer.

The day ends with a bike ride. Cyclists gather at 4pm on the bridge by the Southern Salt Pans, and at 5pm Burgas welcomes riders taking part in "COP31". The city is a stop on the route of the international cycling relay "COP 31 – Bike Ride", heading to the UN climate change conference in Antalya.

This year the relay crosses 3 continents and more than 20 countries, covering a route of over 22,000km. Through Bulgaria, the ride is led by the Burgas cycling community, and the relay's two branches meet in Burgas. Any cyclist can join the riders on the way to the official handover of the relay.

Organisers say the two events bring together knowledge and real action in one place, from local planning to tree-planting, alternative transport, art, sport and public involvement.

The events are part of the "Regions4Climate" project No. 101093873, funded by the EU's Horizon Europe programme. Extra support for the two days comes from St. Anastasia Children's Hospital and Burgas's official tourism website, GotoBurgas.
