Burgas will be the first Bulgarian city to host a choir event run by INTERKULTUR. The Sound Waves Burgas contest, open to choirs from abroad, runs from May 27 to 31, 2027.

Organisers are already inviting choirs to sign up. Categories cover children's, youth and mixed choirs.

The top prize, organisers say, is the Black Sea Choral Award, given to the overall winner.

May in Burgas brings sun, mild weather and a seaside feel, so singers can enjoy the year's first beach days alongside the competition, INTERKULTUR says. Away from the stage, participants will find a holiday setting by the sea.

The event is new to the Black Sea coast, and organisers are billing it as the start of summer for choirs. Registration for the 2027 edition has yet to open.
