Three leading Bulgarian municipalities with a technological profile – Varna, Plovdiv, and Burgas – took an unprecedented step in recognizing digital professionals. Local councils unanimously decided to declare July 27 as an unofficial holiday for system administrators.

The innovative initiative aims to highlight the critical role of IT specialists in digital transformation processes. Municipal authorities demonstrate understanding of the significance of technical experts who ensure continuous and stable operation of administrative systems.

The unique aspect of the approach is the opportunity for employees to choose exactly when to use the additional day off within the calendar year. This flexible model allows individual planning and takes into account the specifics of work in the technology sector.

Until now, such a practice did not exist at the local management level, which makes the decision of the three municipalities extremely innovative. Experts define the initiative as an important step towards recognition and valorization of digital professions.
