The Magic of the Maritsa River on Stage in Burgas

On Sunday, June 7, at 7:30 PM, the Summer Theatre in Burgas will become the stage for one of the most significant folklore events of the year. The renowned "Trakia" ensemble presents its newest show, "Along the Maritsa" – a large-scale project inspired by the cultural heritage along one of the most iconic Bulgarian rivers.

"Our creative task was to select the most interesting musical-dance patterns and ritual moments from the settlements along the river and recreate them on stage," shares Prof. Dr. Daniela Dzheneva, artistic director of the ensemble.

A Journey from the Rila Mountains to the Aegean Sea

Following its sold-out premiere in Plovdiv, the show arrives in the seaside city to tell the story of the Bulgarian spirit. The audience will experience the folklore traditions preserved along the river's path:

  • The Rila Mountains and the Samokov region;
  • The Pazardzhik and Plovdiv regions;
  • The traditions of the Aegean region.

The show impresses not only with authentic melodies but also with a visual concept – specially crafted costumes from the Old Town of Plovdiv and unique thematic scenery.
