From today, with the onset of winter, winter maintenance of the republican roads comes into effect, announced the press center of the Road Infrastructure Agency (API). This means that all drivers must take the necessary measures to prepare their cars for travel in conditions of snow and low temperatures.

According to the information provided by API, the regional road administrations are carefully monitoring the meteorological forecasts. Road maintenance companies are ready to react in case of a drop in temperatures and worsening weather. The goal is to ensure the safety of travel for all drivers.

The priority in winter maintenance are the motorways, the busiest routes of the first and second class road network, as well as the passes that connect Northern and Southern Bulgaria. The authorities emphasize the importance of these roads for maintaining the connections between the different regions.

On the eve of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims - November 16, 2025, API appeals to drivers to be extremely careful and reasonable on the road. The agency reminds that strict compliance with traffic rules is of key importance for reducing the risk of accidents.

The Road Agency advises drivers to take a number of precautionary measures during the winter months. It is recommended to use appropriate tires, a suitable speed, maintain distance and avoid sharp maneuvers. API warns drivers not to overtake snowplows. Blocking traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions significantly hinders the travel of other road users and hinders the work of snowplows.

At the initiative of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the third Sunday in November is marked as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. This day is dedicated to honoring those who died and were injured in road accidents, API added.

The "Road Police" department of the General Directorate "National Police" (GDNP) announced at the end of October the beginning of the annual "Winter" action. From November 15 to March 1, all drivers of cars are obliged to use tires suitable for winter conditions.
