Gendarmerie Reveals 343 Road Violations in a Week: Alcohol, Lack of License and Insurance

A large-scale police operation reveals serious problems on Bulgarian roads with multiple violations related to driving without necessary documents and after alcohol consumption.

Experts from the Gendarmerie Directorate documented a total of 343 road legislation violations between August 2 and 8, revealing large-scale challenges regarding road safety.

Among the most alarming facts are two registered cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. In the Lovech village of Dermantsi, a driver was found with an alcohol concentration of 2.21 per mille, while in the Kardzhali village of Murgovo, another driver was caught with 1.19 per mille.

Gendarmerie patrols also uncovered six cases of driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license. Additionally, 114 violations related to the lack of annual technical inspection or mandatory Civil Liability insurance were identified.

During the checks, a total of 615 electronic tickets and penalty documents were issued. The Ministry of Interior statistics show alarming data on road traffic accidents - 167 accidents have been registered since the beginning of the month, with nine fatalities and 210 injured.

The annual statistics are even more concerning - a total of 3,947 accidents with the tragic consequences of 248 fatalities and 4,926 injured persons, which underscores the need for stricter road safety measures.
