Bloody road statistics: Increase in fatalities in 2026
Over the past 24 hours, 22 serious traffic accidents have been registered in the country, resulting in two deaths and 44 injuries, the Ministry of Interior's press office reported.
In the month of August alone, there were 376 serious road accidents, with the number of fatalities reaching 20 and the number of injured reaching 467.
Summary data from the beginning of the year:
- Total number of serious accidents: 4151
- Fatalities: 292 people
- Injured: 5165 people
The data show a worrying trend – when compared to the same period in 2025, an increase of 30 road fatalities is reported. In Sofia, the situation remains busy, with 11 minor accidents and one serious one registered in the last 24 hours alone, in which three people were injured.
