The Regional Prosecutor's Office - Burgas has filed a request with the court for a measure of pre-trial detention "detention" against four individuals accused of attempting to smuggle over 70 kg of marijuana.
The attempted smuggling was carried out on December 10, 2025, at the "Malko Tarnovo" border crossing point.
The accused acted in complicity, with two of them acting as instigators and accomplices, and the other two as perpetrators.
During the investigation, it was established that the marijuana was hidden in 8 gas cylinders in two cars with Bulgarian registration. The cars were traveling from Bulgaria to Turkey.
After an operational analysis, customs inspectors directed three cars for a thorough customs check. All three vehicles were traveling to Turkey. In two of the cars, 5 and 3 gas cylinders respectively were installed, which are part of a functioning gas system, but were filled not with gas, but with packages containing dry green herbaceous matter.
During the field drug tests, the substance in the packages reacted to marijuana.
The seized amount of marijuana from the gas cylinders in the two cars is a total of 70.064 kg. The value of the narcotic substance is 1,121,024 leva at the prices of the legal proceedings.
