Remand in custody for human trafficking near Sozopol
The District Prosecutor's Office in Burgas has taken decisive action against another case of illegal human trafficking. A request has been filed in court for the imposition of the most severe preventive measure – "remand in custody" – against a 22-year-old citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia.
The young man is accused of illegally assisting 35 citizens of Afghanistan to cross and reside in Bulgarian territory.
The incident occurred on August 18 in the area of the village of Krushevets, Sozopol. During the inspection carried out by the Ministry of Interior authorities, it was established that the foreigners did not possess any identity documents.
Increasing cases of illegal migration in the Burgas region
This case is not an isolated incident for the region. Statistics from recent months show increased pressure:
- August: 20 migrants were detained in the Ropotamo River area during an operation by the "Border Police".
- June: 32 illegal migrants were stopped at the "Poda" checkpoint near Burgas.
The authorities are continuing specialized operations to curb illegal migration and dismantle human trafficking channels.
