Construction in riverbeds and dry gullies is not only inadmissible, but also constitutes a crime, which leads to loss of human life or endangers it, said the Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh during today's quick check. He emphasized the seriousness of the problem, pointing out that such practices threaten the overall development of the tourism industry and the livelihood of the people on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The Minister also drew attention to another important topic related to the future of tourism in the country - climate change. He announced an upcoming joint conference with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and other relevant institutions. The purpose of the conference is to discuss specific measures to address the problem, with Borshosh warning of potentially dramatic consequences if no action is taken. According to him, if specific measures are not taken, Bulgaria may face the reality of being left without beaches in just twenty years.
The rise in global water levels, which often seems like a distant problem, is actually already having an impact, the Minister stressed. He added that this issue is of paramount importance, on par with the pollution of the planet. The sight of the ocean, which seemed distant, is approaching at an alarming speed, reminding of the need for immediate and decisive action.
