Crisis or uneven season?
Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov categorically rejected claims of a total collapse in the tourism sector, describing the situation as "uneven development." Although the analysis of the season is yet to come, the main challenges are already clear.
The German market and the loss of 220,000 seats
"This is a very serious blow and a serious management error," said Dimitrov regarding the lack of adequate actions during the rift between major tour operators in the German market.
The lack of these flights has led to a weaker start to the season, which is difficult to compensate for in the height of summer. According to the minister, this has "dipped into the pockets" of nearly 350,000 workers in the sector.
The future of tourism in Bulgaria
- Year-round destination: The focus is shifting from quantity to quality of the tourism product.
- Connectivity: Talks are forthcoming with airport operators to increase flights to Burgas.
- Advertising: Efforts will be directed toward a better strategy for attracting foreign tourists.
Minister Dimitrov emphasized that Bulgaria must stop relying solely on mass tourism and strive for sustainable development of the sector throughout the year.
