Serious delay in F-16 Block 70 deliveries
Lockheed Martin has informed the Ministry of Defense (MoD) that the delivery of the second batch of eight F-16 Block 70 fighter jets may be delayed until the second quarter of 2030. The reason for this is difficulties encountered in the production process.
"For the Bulgarian side, it is of key importance that the delay be minimized as much as possible and that it does not lead to an additional financial burden for the state," stated Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov.

- Deadlines: The indicated deadline of 2030 is not final; the US promises actions to accelerate production.
- Price: Bulgaria expects assurances that the delay will not increase the cost of the contract.
- First batch: The goal remains for the first eight aircraft to enter combat duty as early as next year.
- Training and maintenance: Minister Stoyanov is insisting on expanding training opportunities for Bulgarian pilots and ensuring a supply of spare parts.
How will our airspace be defended?
Until the new F-16s are fully operational, Bulgaria will continue to use MiG-29s for "Air policing" missions. Since maintaining them is becoming increasingly difficult, the MoD is negotiating the acquisition of second-hand fighter jets (F-16 or Gripen), although expectations for success remain reserved.
