European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen will arrive in Bulgaria tomorrow, the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria announced. This visit is part of a series of meetings and checks, focusing on key aspects of energy policy in the region.

Jørgensen is expected to meet with the Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov. The main goal of the meeting is to discuss on the spot the progress on the construction of lot 3 "Rupcha-Vetrino" of the Vertical Gas Corridor, a strategic initiative that has key international importance in the energy sector.

The Minister of Energy of Romania Bogdan-Gryuya Ivan, as well as other government representatives and diplomats from the countries participating in the project, will also be present at the inspection site. The presence of these high-ranking officials underlines the importance of the project and the coordinated efforts for its successful completion. A visit to the "Nova Provadia" compressor station is also planned, which will allow the commissioner and the participants to get acquainted with the specific stages of the project's implementation.

Today, before his visit to Bulgaria, Jørgensen is visiting Romania, where he is participating in a ministerial meeting of the High-Level Group for Energy Connectivity of Central and Southeastern Europe. This meeting is taking place against the background of the ongoing negotiations for the gradual elimination of imports of fossil fuels from Russia. The participants discussed ways to ensure more affordable energy prices, according to the announcement. The meeting in Romania is indicative of the European Union's efforts to reduce its energy dependence and diversify energy sources.

The Vertical Gas Corridor is a key initiative supported by the European Commission and unites the efforts of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova. The project aims to increase gas transmission capacities, including liquefied gas, in a south-to-north direction, starting from Greece, through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, with the possibility of reaching Ukraine. This is an important step towards ensuring energy security and stability in the region.
