Bulgaria at the 38th COMNAP General Meeting
A Bulgarian delegation took part in the prestigious forum of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP), held in Tromsø, Norway. The leading figure of Bulgarian polar science, Prof. Christo Pimpirev, represented our country at the event, which took place far above the Arctic Circle.
Coordination and mutual assistance in logistics activities are key to the safety of operations in the Earth's harshest polar conditions.
The delegation included experts with extensive experience:
- Dragomir Mateev – Deputy Director of the National Center for Polar Studies;
- Kamen Nedkov – Head of the base on Livingston Island;
- Petar Sapundzhiev – logistician with eight expeditions behind him;
- Captain 1st Rank Nikolay Danailov – former commander of the NIP "St. St. Cyril and Methodius".
Prospects for the Bulgarian expedition
A major focus of the discussions was the preparation for the upcoming national Antarctic expedition. The Bulgarian representatives discussed opportunities for the transport of personnel and cargo in cooperation with international partners.
We remind you that during previous missions, the research vessel "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" covered over 20,000 nautical miles, confirming Bulgaria's serious ambitions as an active explorer of the Ice Continent.
