For another day, military personnel from the Bulgarian Land Forces continue their tireless fight against forest fires raging in the Pirin Mountains and Sungurlare municipality. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense in its latest briefing on the situation.

In the Pirin Mountains, known for their unique nature and biodiversity, 20 servicemen from the 3rd Mechanized Battalion, part of the 3rd Brigade Command, have been mobilized with specialized equipment. The team, led by Lieutenant Kamen Velkov, is already on the ground and working shoulder to shoulder with firefighters, forest officials, and volunteers in an attempt to control the disaster.

The situation in Pirin is particularly concerning, as the fire has entered the territory of "Pirin" National Park, threatening valuable ecosystems and rare species. Due to crown fires and extremely dangerous conditions, firefighting is currently being carried out only by helicopters, while ground teams have been withdrawn for their safety.

The military personnel are working under extremely difficult atmospheric conditions in hard-to-reach mountainous terrain with a slope of over 70 degrees. This makes their task not only difficult but also extremely dangerous, requiring high physical fitness and specialized skills.

Meanwhile, in Sungurlare municipality, Burgas region, the battle against another serious fire continues for the second day. There, 30 servicemen from the 42nd Mechanized Battalion of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade have been sent with specialized equipment to the area of Skala village. Under the leadership of Senior Lieutenant Vasil Todorov, they are operating in hard-to-reach areas, trying to limit the spread of the fire.

These efforts highlight the important role that the Bulgarian army plays in responding to disasters and accidents, complementing the work of the fire service and other rescue teams. The duration and intensity of the fires raise questions about the impact of climate change on the frequency and scale of such incidents in Bulgaria.

The Ministry of Defense assures that it will continue to provide the necessary support and resources to fight the fires until the situation is fully under control. Authorities urge citizens to be extremely careful and to follow all fire prevention measures, especially in high-risk areas.
