The chairman of the "Vazrazhdane" party, Kostadin Kostadinov, announced that the party will submit a draft to postpone Bulgaria's entry into the Eurozone by one year. This became clear from a statement by Kostadinov to journalists in the National Assembly.
Kostadinov pointed out that according to the Act of Accession of Bulgaria to the European Union, signed in 2005, Bulgaria was given an exception for entering the Eurozone, which was repealed on July 8. He believes that Bulgaria has the right to request an extension of this exception until January 1, 2027, due to the occurrence of a force majeure circumstance.
According to Kostadinov, the lack of a regular cabinet and budget constitutes an insurmountable force. He noted that the validity of this year's budget can be extended through 2026, but emphasized that the word "euro" is not mentioned in the 2025 budget.
Kostadinov added that he has sent a letter to President Rumen Radev, requesting the convening of a Consultative Council for National Security in connection with the risks of entering the Eurozone. He believes that it is necessary for such a council to be held within the next week.
Kostadinov expressed the opinion that it is best for early parliamentary elections to be held at the end of March, and responded to a question about a government configuration within the framework of this parliament that it is hypothetically possible, but in practice it will not happen.
The news comes after the resignation of the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet.
