New rules for pets at the seaside
Starting June 1, 2026, a strict ban on walking and staying with dogs and other pets on guarded beaches along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast comes into effect. The restriction will be in force throughout the entire active summer season.
The measure is not directed against pets, but is dictated by the Black Sea Coast Spatial Planning Act and municipal ordinances.
Why is the ban being introduced?
- Hygiene and health: Even dewormed animals can carry ticks and parasites into the sand.
- Peace of mind for tourists: Many visitors fear dogs, regardless of their size or temperament.
- Safety of the animals: Hot sand can cause serious burns to paws, and summer heat carries a risk of heatstroke for pets.
Adhering to these rules is an act of responsibility both to other vacationers and to the health of the animals themselves.
