New hope for the Varna – Golden Sands panoramic road
After decades of uncertainty and stalled projects, Varna Municipality has announced a public procurement for the design and construction of an overpass on the iconic panoramic road connecting the sea capital with the Golden Sands resort.
"The solution is for a deep overpass structure, stabilized in solid soil foundations at a depth of over 35 meters," notes Eng. Plamen Kitipov, Deputy Mayor of the municipality.
The path to a solution
The problem dates back to 2005, when landslide processes necessitated the complete closure of the route to vehicles. Although the road itself is not directly affected and is accessible to pedestrians, heavy traffic has been halted for safety reasons.
Project details:
- Budget: 19.5 million BGN, provided under the "Regions in Growth" program 2021–2027.
- Application deadline: Companies can submit bids until June 1.
- Deadline: Planned completion of the project – summer 2028.
This project represents the most ambitious attempt to resolve the issue, which has been frozen several times over the years due to a lack of funding.
