The new plan for the “Black Sea” motorway
Regional Minister Ivan Shishkov revealed an ambitious schedule for the development of road infrastructure in Northeast Bulgaria. By the end of next year, the conceptual design and the detailed development plan for the long-awaited “Black Sea” motorway are expected to be finalized.
“Currently, we have traffic that is suited for a motorway, but we are running it along second-class roads,” emphasized Minister Shishkov during his visit to Dobrich.
Possibility for concession and investments
The state's main strategy is for the project to be offered for concession. This model allows for:
- Attracting private investments without directly burdening the state budget.
- Modern tolling mechanisms without building physical payment points.
- Faster project implementation given its status as part of a European transport corridor.
Rehabilitation of the road network in Dobrich
In addition to the strategic development of the motorway, the meeting also focused on the critical condition of regional roads. The Ministry of Regional Development is planning priority major repairs for the most compromised sections, combined with ongoing maintenance for the rest of the network.
The realization of these infrastructure projects is key not only for traffic safety but also for the economic development of the entire Dobrich region.
