From December 27th, Varna will begin a phased technical adaptation of the ticket vending machines in public transport to work with euro coins. The reason is Bulgaria's upcoming entry into the Eurozone.
“In the period from December 27th to the first days of the new year, all machines will be processed, because there are over 250 of them in the territory of Varna and in the buses,” explained Georgi Kiryakov, director of the municipal enterprise “Transport and Automated System for Traffic Regulation”.
According to him, no serious difficulties are expected, but the process requires time. Technical tests are currently being carried out.
During the adaptation period, some of the machines will be temporarily unavailable, therefore the municipal enterprise calls on passengers to use alternative ways to purchase travel documents.
“We urge all users of public transport to use the mobile application Ticket Varna, which is branded on most of the stops,” said Kiryakov and clarified that the ticket through the application will cost 51 cents, compared to the previous price of 1 lev.
