In a few months, the first multidisciplinary pediatric hospital in Bulgaria will open in Burgas. While the National Children's Hospital in Sofia, 48 years after its first sod was turned, remains a topic without a final decision, the municipal medical facility in the seaside city has been built and fully equipped in two years.
The children's hospital in Burgas has 142 beds and will treat patients in 27 medical specialties.
Yana Sherdenova, coordinator for recruiting healthcare professionals at MBALDB "St. Anastasia": An emergency department that will operate 24 hours a day, a neurology clinic, a pediatric pulmonology and phthisiology clinic, a pediatric clinical oncohematology clinic, a surgery clinic, a pediatrics clinic, which will include all therapeutic specialties, and an infectious diseases department.
The equipment in the children's hospital is fully adapted in the form of animals or cartoon characters so as not to stress the young patients.
Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas Municipality: "On March 10, all the documentation will be submitted to the Ministry of Health to obtain a permit to operate. This is extremely important and in practice, if we receive permission in a reasonable time frame, we are ready to start."
The role of the nurse in the medical facility will also be special.
Yana Sherdenova, coordinator for recruiting healthcare professionals at MBALDB "St. Anastasia": "The nurse, in addition to caring for the child, will also be a confidante of the parents. This is our goal, for the care of the young patients to be comprehensive."
The search for specialists continues.
Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas Municipality: "Unfortunately, there are a very limited number of pediatric specialists in Bulgaria, including we have several Bulgarians who are currently working abroad in European countries. They have confirmed and will join our team."
Special housing is also being built for them.
