Animation takes over the fifth day of the Burgas International Film Festival
The fifth day of the 11th Burgas International Film Festival program will be dedicated to the magic of animated cinema. The highlight is the special Aquanima selection, curated by the world-renowned Bulgarian director and animator Theodore Ushev.
"This year, the Aquanima selection includes titles that showcase the wide range of animated cinema – from absurd humor to deeply personal social themes," the organizers share.
What does Aquanima include?
- "Life with an Idiot" (2025): The second screening in Bulgaria of Theodore Ushev's newest film.
- "Retirement Home": The Oscar-nominated work by John Kelly.
- "Super-Sensitive": Catherine Lepage's personal story, inspired by heavy metal aesthetics.
- "Paradaïz": Matea Radic's surreal journey in search of the concept of "home."
- "Kyiv Cake": A drama about survival in contemporary Ukraine by Mykyta Lyskov.
Additional program highlights
In addition to the animated films, the festival offers:
- Short competition films with Bulgarian subtitles for the hearing impaired.
- Feature films "Blue Heron" and "My Samba."
- Documentary cinema at the Youth Center ("Meden Rudnik") and at the "Ohlyuva" (The Snail) stage.
All screenings have free admission, and the festival continues to serve as a platform for meeting directors and discussing current topics in art.
