Emergency meeting at the Council of Ministers to address juvenile aggression
In light of the frequent cases of violence by minors, Prime Minister Rumen Radev convened representatives of the responsible institutions to outline a new plan to combat juvenile delinquency.
"Inconsistent policy and the lack of effective control over the years have led to a sense of impunity in society," the participants in the discussion noted.
Key priorities for reform:
- Legislative changes: Updating the outdated Juvenile Delinquency Act of 1958.
- Internet monitoring: The Ministry of Interior is strengthening control over content that encourages violence on social networks.
- Combating vices: Increasing penalties for the distribution of drugs and alcohol around schools.
- Prevention through education: Developing a new National Program for the 2027–2030 period.
The institutions are also planning more active work with parents, as well as the creation of new extracurricular activities, sports, and arts to engage young people and prevent deviant behavior.
