Sofia Airport recorded remarkable activity in July, with a total of 5,996 flights serving passengers to a diverse international network of destinations. The statistics show an impressive geographical reach - 89 different routes within 33 countries, operated by a total of 29 airlines.
Among the most preferred international routes, five leading European destinations stand out: London in the United Kingdom, Vienna in Austria, Frankfurt in Germany, Istanbul in Turkey, and Milan in Italy. These cities attract the greatest interest among travelers from the Bulgarian capital.
In the context of expanding air connections, the Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh took an important step in diplomatic relations. He held a working meeting with the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham) Ivan Mihaylov, during which the potential opportunity to restore a direct air route between Sofia and New York was discussed.
This meeting is viewed as a strategic attempt to expand international air connections and improve Bulgaria's transport connectivity with global destinations. Restoring the direct line to New York would have significant economic and tourism potential.
Data from Sofia Airport demonstrates a sustained interest in international travel and the capacity to serve diverse routes, which underscores the important role of air transport in modern mobility.
