The organization of the Giro d'Italia cycling race has been criticized by the caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Nikolay Naydenov. He pointed out poor planning and inflated costs from the Road Infrastructure Agency (API).

Naydenov stated that API had estimated the repair of road sections at 10 million euros, but the amount had increased to 55 million euros in two months. He has filed reports with the Ministry of Interior and the Agency for State Financial Inspection.

The Minister emphasized that the purpose of the reports is publicity and transparency. Naydenov recalled that an inspection of the route was carried out in November 2025.

The caretaker Minister of Sports, Dimitar Iliev, assured that the organization of the race is proceeding normally and there is no danger of the Giro d'Italia not taking place.

Sofia will host the final in May, with the event expected to attract over 700 million viewers.

The outgoing cabinet approved funding of 15 million euros for 2026 in January and 8,675,675 euros in February.
