By 2025, malignant neoplasms in Bulgaria reached 302,450, with breast cancer accounting for the largest share (51,179 cases). The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced the launch of two national screening campaigns, which will continue until 2030.
Screening for cervical cancer:
- Includes testing for human papillomavirus (HPV).
- Women between 25 and 65 years old will receive a self-sampling kit for home use.
- Free HPV vaccination for girls (10-18 years old) and boys (10-14 years old).
Screening for colorectal cancer:
- Performed through a fecal occult blood test.
- Individuals aged 45-75 years will receive a sampling kit.
Other highlights:
- The first deliveries of consumables are expected within two months.
- The implementation of the screening programs will begin in the second quarter of the year.
- 14 hospitals in the country will be equipped with modern equipment for radiotherapy and oncological diagnostics under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
- The MoH launched a video for the prevention of cervical cancer.
