A property empire surrounding Ivan Demerdzhiev?
Tension in the National Assembly escalated after the Deputy Chairman of the DPS parliamentary group, Hamid Hamid, presented shocking data regarding the assets of Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev. According to the information disclosed, the minister's family and companies controlled by him own an impressive 411 real estate properties.
"The information is based on public registries and media revelations pointing to a complex scheme for land acquisition and tax evasion," Hamid stated to journalists.
Case details:
- Scale: 411 properties, including apartments, building plots, and agricultural land near Markovo and Brestovitsa.
- Financial dimensions: Material interest exceeding 16 million BGN and transaction turnovers of over 26 million BGN.
- Suspicious practices: Allegations of fictitious transactions, avoidance of local taxes through "buffer companies," and trading in influence regarding the change of land status.
Hamid Hamid emphasized that the scheme included the acquisition of a luxury "Porsche" car at a significantly undervalued price of 1,795 BGN, which raises serious ethical and legal questions. Member of Parliament Atidzhe Alieva-Veli has already submitted an official inquiry to the Minister of Agriculture regarding how the status of the respective lands was changed.
All documents and data are being prepared for submission to the Prosecutor's Office, which is expected to investigate whether public officials facilitated these business practices.
