The number of road traffic accidents in Bulgaria during the first half of 2026 is alarming. Data from the Ministry of Interior show a 36% increase in fatalities, and the number of injured also rose.
The situation involving trucks and lorries is particularly worrying – accidents involving them have increased by 43%. Special attention should be paid to the "Death Stretch" Telish-Radomirtsi, where seven people have died in the last five years.

The state is taking measures such as installing separating bollards and flexible barriers. An example is the section near the village of Bulgarski Izvor, where serious accidents have decreased dramatically after the installation of bollards.
However, traffic remains a major problem, especially in the Kresna Gorge, where traffic is 2.5 times higher than the road's capacity.
