Attempted Bribery on Trakia Motorway
Another case of attempted bribery of a public official has shaken Bulgaria's roads. A truck driver with a trailer registered in Montenegro was detained near Ihtiman after attempting to "treat" police officers to avoid a sanction.
"During the inspection, the driver offered 20 euros placed in his passport, with the request that the police officers have a treat," reported the General Directorate of National Police.
The reason for the stop was a missing rear license plate on the vehicle. Pre-trial proceedings have already been initiated in the case.
Mass Inspections on Motorways
The operation is part of the increased control that the traffic police have been exercising in recent days on the Trakia and Struma motorways. The statistics from the inspection of nearly 300 vehicles are alarming:
- Lack of valid "Third-Party Liability" insurance;
- Missed mandatory technical inspections;
- Violations in the emergency lane;
- A bus driver was sanctioned for using a mobile phone while transporting 19 passengers.
Meanwhile, in the Blagoevgrad region, nearly 2,000 violations were identified in one week during a specialized speed control operation, reminding drivers that traffic control remains a priority for road safety.
